Prerequisites
To get a correct learning of the course contents the student is requested to having attended the Vertebrate Zoology course or at least having a basic knowledge of Vertebrate evolution and systematics.
Course unit content
<p><em>Protection, Support and Movement </em>(CFU 1)<br />
General structure, function and evolution of integument. Characteristics and specialisation of bone skeleton. Structure of cranial, post cranial and appendicular skeleton. The muscular system: its function and evolution.<br />

<em>Metabolism </em>(CFU 1)<br />
Basic aspects of respiration. Gill and lung ventilation. The cardiovascular system and its evolution: single- and double-circuit blood circulation. Ingestion, digestion and food absorption.<br />
<br />
<em>Relationship with the environment</em> (CFU 1)<br />
The nervous system and sense organs. Function of the endocrine system. Function and evolution of excretory and reproductive systems.<br />
