Learning objectives
<br />The course aims atintroducing the student to the knowledge and scientific use of archivaldocumentation useful to investigate the history of the Italianpopulation.<br />Thepurpose is to describe in detail the various and most important kindsof demographic sources of the Italian pre-unitary period.Alongwith such a description, the course aims at illustrating whichdemographic analyses can be carried out according to the differenttypologies of sources.
Prerequisites
The course requires knowledge of basic mathematics principles, and some notions of Italian modern history.<br />
Course unit content
<br />
The course will be structured in two distinct parts. The first part will be dedicated to introduce students to some basic principles of demography and to some of the most common demographic techniques. In particular, the Concept of population, Vital and census statistics, longitudinal and cross-sectional analysis, Incidence and timing of demographic events.<br />
The second part will concern more specifically the study of historical-demographic sources since the 15th century. The focus will be on nature and qualità of information available and on the possibile analyses. <br />

Teaching methods
