Learning objectives
The main goal of the course is to stimulate the student to reach the solution of a physics problem by employing the most pertinent tools, analytical, numerical, MonteCarlo simulations etc.
Prerequisites
Classical Mechanics
Elementary Quantum Mechanics
Basis of computer programming
Course unit content
Problem solving in Classical Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics, Statistical Mechanics.
The student is introduced to some case studies which require analytical and/or numerical effort to reach a result (e.g. the motion of planets in the Solar system and relativistic corrections). Alone or in collaboration with class mates, the student is encouraged to find the right mathematical tools and to get insight into the physical problem.
