Course unit content
<br />introduction : laboratory safety, equipments, chemical products. <br />Chemical reactions: acid-base, redox; recognition of gaseous products. precipitation of few soluble salts; identification of substances on the ground of reactivity tests.<br />Preparation of compounds (PbCrO4), crystallization and purification of substances (CuSO4).<br />Solution equilibria : solubility of ionic compounds, solubility product, effect of the common ion, temperature, complexes formation.<br />Application of homogeneous and heterogeneous equilibria in the separation and recognition of cations and anions.<br />Principles and applications of volumetric analysis:<br />1)preparation and dilution of solutions . <br />2)acide-base titrations(NaOH vs HCl, Na2CO3 vs HCl) and determination of end point with indicators.<br />3) Potentiometric acide-base titrations and titrations curve.<br />4) redox titrations (permanganatometric)<br />5) complexometric titration (determination of total and permanent hardness of water using EDTA)<br />Preparation of buffer system and control of buffer power.<br />behaviour of metals in the solutions of different ions. Elettrochemical series.<br />TLC for separation of leaves pigments.<br />determination by means of spectrophotometry UV-visible of concentration Fe 2+ in water samples. Calibration line.
