At the end of the course, students should be able to:
- Adopt a sociological look on social phenomena
- Use a sociological language to describe and analyse social phenomena
Critically analyse the reality around them and the social, economic and cultural contexts in which they live

Course unit content
The course will be organized in three parts. In a first part the main theoretical approaches will be presented through the thinking of some classical sociologists (Marx, Durkheim, Weber, etc.). In a second part the pillars of sociological theory (culture, structure and power) will be analytically presented, as well as the elements that characterize them. Additionally, the main categories useful for understanding the different social phenomena will be illustrated.
A third part will be dedicated to addressing issues such as identity, gender and inequalities, in the light of the pillars presented in the first part.

Teaching methods
Teaching activities will be conducted partly in a frontal way, promoting exchanges and discussions with students, and partly through individual or group exercises.
The materials provided by the lecturer cannot be shared outside Unipr, unless differently agreed with the lecturer.
Assessment methods and criteria
The exam will be written and will focus on the handbook. In particular, it will be composed of 3 open-ended questions, with no space limits, and 6 multiple choice questions (time available: 2 hours). (Open-ended questions will be general, and will be aimed to assess not only the notions acquired by students) but also
their critical thinking skills and ability to use an appropriate language. Each open-ended question will be assessed with a score from 0 to 8 points, while each correct multiple choice question will be scored 1 point.
Other information
The lecturer is always available for clarifications on both the contents and organisation of the classes (timetable, materials to be studied, examination procedures, etc.).
Meetings between lecturer and students can be in person or online. The office hours for A.Y. 2023-2024 are normally on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. In any case, all students are invited to email the lecturer in advance to make an appointment (in person or online). It is also possible) to make an appointment on other days and/or times if students have problems on the day and/or time of weekly office hours.
The teacher's office is located on the 4th floor, Philosophy of Law wing, next to the entrance to the Social Services wing. If the door is closed, please ring the bell.
