Learning objectives

The aim of the course is to provide students with the methodological tools for understanding the intrinsic problems of providing finance for forms of enterprise which are excluded from the ordinary financial market. Enterprises that can be considered as such are micro-enterprises, social enterprises and informal enterprises, which in developing countries represent the most widespread type. During the course the various methodologies which have contributed to the diffusion of microcredit and microfinance within the sphere of international cooperation will be analysed as innovative models of local development.
Particular attention will be given to the aspects of type, social inclusion and the participatory approach. Ample time will be given to an analysis of case studies conducted both by sector and geographical region.
