Course unit content
The course aims to reconstruct and interpret Italian industrial development, with specific reference to the birth and assertion of the industrial districts of the so-called Third Italy. This development, in fact, shows particular aspects, being based on the presence of small and medium sized businesses, which are characterized by their high level of specialization and equally pronounced flexibility. The course aims to demonstrate that the success of this form of industrialisation is a structural element of the entire Italian development process (and not just a marginal event) and that, within that context, the intervention of local organisations and institutions (scholastic system, local banks, local bodies, business associations, etc.) was fundamental.
