Learning objectives

the course aims to introduce the students to the use of the logical frameworks used by international bodies, non-government organisations, Foreign ministries, the United Nations and the European Commission in designing and drawing up development projects. The course on Project Cycle and the logical framework also aims to provide the students with a global vision of the various project presentation models, required as a precondition for all activities in the field of international development cooperation.
Course unit content
The course is based on the detailed illustration of the so-called ''logical framework'' which includes the various project phases: The feasibility study with the consequent identification of general and specific objectives, their link according to a logical matrix, the identification of evaluation criteria, the tools for ongoing and ex post evaluation, the procedure for any required reprogramming.

The programme also illustrates in detail the “logical matrix” working method , which allows for the creation of a coherent project intervention that can be assessed by both recipients and financing authorities. Furthermore, the course will broach this topic through a critical and reasoned approach to the Project Cycle Manual, which has been adopted universally in international fields, with particular attention to the format used by the European Commission, which is today the largest donor of multilateral aid, and non-government organisations.
