Learning objectives

The course aims, through the reading of texts, to put the student in contact with Provençal literature, whose contribution to modern european culture (most of all to lyric poetry) is essential.

Prerequisites

The student must have followed a Romance Philology examination over a three-year period or have (at least basic) knowledge of Latin and historical linguistics of the Italian language). Knowledge of Italian Literature and at least the fundamentals of the history of the Italian language are also useful.

Course unit content

The course is divided into a `seminary' part that chamges every year (and always includes the reading of some Provençal texts); furthermore, the student will have to write a short dissertation on a suitable topic (translation essay, commentary on a given text, etc.).

Teaching methods
Given the expected low number of students enrolling, the course is held in seminar form.
The practical test of the examination consists of a short dissertation on a topic to be agreed with the professor, which will be evidence of the student's autonomy in reading and translating from Old Provençal.
