Learning objectives
The course presents the phenomenologies of urban and territorial systems, examined in relation to socio-economic and landscape-environmental variables which influence the dynamics of transformation. The illustration of techniques for urban and territorial research enables the student to understand the organisation of anthropic settlements, the localisation criteria for these settlements or for parts of them in the planning tools, as well as the main analytical supports for architectural design

Course unit content
In short, the lectures will regard the following topics: Introductory notes on the disciplinary topics of urban and territorial analysis; cartographic and information supports for the urban planning survey; primary and secondary urban planning surveys; the natural and anthropic roots of the territory; physical, environmental and landscape urban planning surveys; geo-environmental and eco-environmental surveys; historical urban planning surveys; social urban planning surveys: demographic and human factors; social urban planning surveys: kinematic, building and technological factors; elements of urban morphology: urban fabrics; polarizations of civil and religious interest; open spaces; structural urban planning elements: simple and complex urban planning units; urban planning zones and systems. To support the theoretical topics of the lectures, applications of survey techniques related to defining residential space quality indicators in the urban field will be carried out.<br />

Teaching methods
Theoretical lectures and exercises<br />
To be admitted to the examination students must have handed in the project carried out during the course; the assessment of this project will contribute to the determination of the final mark. The examination consists of a written test regarding the syllabus covered during the lectures and the exercises making up the course. The topics covered during the exercises and the related theoretical topics may be discussed during an oral part of the examination.
