Learning objectives

Guide young students in a reality that they live constantly but often have no conception. Knowing the other through encounter, knowledge of customs, customs, rites and religion promotes the interculture and inclusion of individuals. The reality of the first and second generations also implies renunciations and daily patterns to be followed to orient oneself in the daily reality of a country that welcomes but does not recognize. Being a citizen means respecting the culture of the other and knowing them as well as knowing each other, and in the health sector this is of primary importance. Knowing the other means going beyond commonplaces and achieving respect for the dignity of the person, not as an individual, but as a person, citizen and human being in the broader vision of "cultural human being" and not mere number.

Course unit content

To live with natural diversity does not mean to know the other. To live together it is therefore necessary to know each other. The course will lead the student to understand and learn about cultural diversity through a scientific approach of anthropological-ethnographic character to which are added legislative elements on migration, international humanitarian law and humanitarian law of the sea. During the course will address the issues related to prejudice and clichés, racisms and identities, forms of social inclusion but also of social exclusion. The difficulties of first and second generation migrants within the country and the health system. The health problems that migrants encounter with respect to work expectations, which over time affect health itself. The concept of healthy migrant and sick migrant, but also the concepts of assimilation, integration, inclusion, interculture and multiculturalism. Dismantle prejudices and clichés between the primary objectives of the course, for a vision of a country, a health care, and an inclusive and multicultural society.

Full programme

The program also includes moments of study of legislative matters, but will try to bring to light the world of invisibility related to the problems of the Italian migration in particular. We will address health in the field of migration medicine, health and care aspects of cultural diversity, knowledge of each other and cultural diversity. The course aims to be a knowledge of the other and themselves through the elements and methods of Anthropology and Ethnography. It is an advanced form of applied Anthropology, in a non-salgarian reality, that allows the student to relate through knowledge with the multiculturality of the territory and health. Forming minds that do not know the word foreign, because knowing the other no longer exists the stranger, but only the human cultural that is inherent, in different and disparate forms in each of us. A process of breaking down prejudices, clichés, and also racism and individuality, in the context of daily life but in particular the reality of care and health. During the course, discussions will be addressed in relation to current topics, ranging from migration, geopolitics, international relations to modern and contemporary history, with one specific objective: to know the other through himself, to travel together in the world that we share and share. Not children of different places, but children of the world and of culture.
