Integrated course unit module: ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY OF DOMESTIC ANIMALS

Learning objectives

The course gives basic knowledge about the embryo-foetal development and about the morphology and structural organization of cells, tissues and organs of the animals of main zootechnical interest. The aim is to give a good grounding and specific technical-pratical knowledge useful to make comparisons and controls, to help the resolution of diagnostic problems and to study with profit matters of physiology, patholgy, reproduction, welfare and breeding conditions of animals, zootechny and inspection.

Teaching methods

The didactic rules of the degree in "Technology of Animal Productions and Food Safety" states that the 56 hours of didactic activity, correspondent to a total of 7 CFU (3 CFU in the first semester and 4 CFU in the second), which are of competence of the course of "Histology, Embriology and Anatomy of the Domestic Animals", are shared in 28 hours of frontal lessons and 28 hours of practical activity, these last with compulsory attendance.
The frontal lessons deal with matters of citology, embryology and histology, in the first semester (12 hours), and of anatomy, in the second semester (16 hours).
The practical activity, in the first semester (12 hours), deals matters of osteo-arthro-miology; moreover, optical microscopic observations of tissues are performed. Cadaveric dissections are done in the second semester (16 hours).
The exam consists of an oral examination in which the grounding of the candidate is evaluated, first, on the subjects of the "Histology, Embryology and Anatomy of the Domestic Animals" module and, then, on the ones of the "Veterinary Physiology" module. The candidate must pass with positive result the first part of the exam before being admitted to the part of Veterinary Physiology.
