Provide the basic legislative and technical tools for a correct integrated municipal and special waste management activity.
Course unit content
<br />Waste legislation. A legal overview will be carried out within an EU, national and regional context (directives, laws, decrees, etc.) with theoretical-practical value, in order to highlight the main sources of law for applications in the waste sector in a broad sense. <br />Disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste in accordance with Italian Legislative Decree D.lgs. 22/97 (Ronchi decree). The purpose of the lecture is to introduce the basic concepts of the reference legislation, currently in force in Italy, issued with the " Ronchi decree" and its subsequent amendments and additions. <br />Disposal techniques: landfill and incineration. The main solid waste disposal techniques at national level will be highlighted, with a description of some technical characteristics of plants. <br />Composting and agricultural use of sludge. The lecture will discuss the technical characteristics of compost production plants and methods of use in the agricultural sector. <br />Recovery, reuse and recycling of waste and packaging. The various technical and plant engineering stages and methods on the recovery of hazardous and non-hazardous waste will be analysed in reference to current regulations. <br />Technical and managerial aspects of treatment plants. This part will be carried out during a guided tour of a waste disposal plant at the end of the teaching unit.
