Learning objectives


The Course of Medical Technical Sciences applied to infectious diseases is part of the Degree Course in Health Care as a training activity in the safety and management of biological risk and the knowledge of prevention and health promotion. The course aims to allow the student to know, understand and prevent the possibility of biological risk in contact with the patient. The student must acquire the ability to use knowledge and understanding in formulating a correct interpretation of risk investigations, the correct use of individual and collective protection devices and the options of empowerment and consueling for the patient in accordance with the national plans and regional prevention.

Course unit content


The course includes the attendance of lessons whereby students become familiar with the techniques of prevention and promotion for infectious diseases.
The first part of the course is based on the knowledge of the main biological agents, the associated biological risk of viruses, bacteria, and fungi and the methods of prevention.
The second part of the course will evaluate the necessary personal protective equipment, and the actions to be taken for the prevention and health promotion of infectious diseases.

Teaching methods


Lectures will be held on-site in compliance with safety standards, provided that further instructions on the ongoing health emergency are not implemented. Supporting material will be available on the specific, student-reserved platform and will include slide presentations, audio-video aids or video-recording of the lectures.

Assessment methods and criteria


Written exam (either in the classroom or online via Teams platform). The student needs to demonstrate knowledge about the mitigation of the risk factors for reducing the impact of the common social diseases with particular emphasis on cardiovascular diseases, as well as the modality of health promotions.
