Integrated course unit module: FRENCH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE

Learning objectives

The Course aims at illustrating the general context of Contemporay Lebanese Literature in French, focalising the different problems linked to the Civil War.
Therefore, aspects of Lebanese history and literature will be presented, as well as the contributions of contemporary writers to the redescovery of Liban history, even through the cinematographical adaptations of some works.

Prerequisites

The requirement concerns the possession of the C1 Level of French.

Course unit content

The Course aims at transmitting the main concepts of Contemporary Libanese Literature in French, focalising the different aspects linked to the Civil War.

Teaching methods

The didactic methods will include the traditional lesson, authentic documents, videos, podcasts, videoconferences and other instruments which can enrich and complete the knowledge of students.

Assessment methods and criteria

The students' competences will be verified through an Oral Examination, testing :
- the main contents of all the works analysed, above all in relation to the themes of Lebanese Civil War and the reconstruction of History (themes, rethorical figures, images, symbols and meaning of the main characters, spatial and temporal dimension of the texts);
- knowledge of the main lines of Lebanese history, above all in relation to the works studied;
- deep knowledge of the authors that are part of the Programme.
Students that will not have the entire texte in French of each work examined, as well as all the bibliographical material given by the Professor, COULD NOT BE EXAMINED.

A non sufficient score (less than 18/30) will be attributed to students that - at the Oral Examination - will not show an adequate competence in illustrating in a correct French the various works examined.
A sufficient score (between 18/30 and 23/30) will be attributed to students that - at the Oral Examination - will show an adequate competence to illustrate in a correct and current French the various works examined.
A positive score (between 24/30 and 26/30) will be attributed to students that - at the Oral Examination - will demonstrate to know the main contents of the Course and to be able to illustrate them in a critical way and in a correct and fluid French.
A very good score (between 27/30 and 30/30) will be attributed to students that - at the Oral Examination - will show to know all the contents of the Course, being able to establish critical connexions between works and authors, illustrating them in a very appropriate and fluid French.
