Learning objectives

The laboratory aims to promote:
- knowledge of the key rights and responsibilities of researchers and research participants, and their application in the real professional;
- independence of judgment and autonomy with respect to the issues addressed in the preparation and conduct of a psychological research; knowledge to communicate research finding.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of methodology of psychological research.

Course unit content

The laboratory aims to investigate the ethic dimension of research in Psychology: the protection of participants, researchers and discipline.

Full programme

Presentation of the most important principles of research ethics, in the field of Psychology:
the protection of subjects and discipline;
informed consent;
plagiarism;
protection of finding;
publication of the results.

Bibliography

The study of the topics of the laboratory will be through the study of some research papers that will be identified and selected with the students during the lessons.
Al the material will be on platform Elly.

Teaching methods

Lectures will be held on-site in compliance with safety standards, provided that further instructions on the ongoing health emergency are not implemented. Supportive material will be available on the specific, student-reserved platform (Elly) and will include slide presentations, audio-video aids or video-recordings of the lectures.
Interactive lessons that require the active participation of students: group discussion on ethical problems, to facilitate the acquisition of the ability to apply the knowledge to reality, the independence of judgment and autonomy in practice; analysis of papers; brief reports.
In the event that the worsening of the current health emergency (Covid-19) does not
make it possible the lesson at presence, it will be totally online at distance in
synchronous and asyncrhonous mode (TEAMS).

Assessment methods and criteria

The examination, without final vote, takes place by the evaluation of an individual or in group guided commentary written on the ethical aspects of research presented in a scientific paper.
