Learning objectives

The course aims to provide the elements for a proper assessment of the risks of human activities on the environment and their effects on human health. At the end of the course the student will be able to know the main aspects and issues related to world energy production and consumption, “air quality” and effects of environmental air pollutants. The student will be able, starting from the basic knowledge given in the course, to acquire by himself the information, features, data that can be useful to know the main characteristics of systems and solutions used and/or for these broad areas (energy and air quality).

Course unit content

The course aims to provide the basic concepts related to the planet energy balance, to the energy sustainability, to the classification and measurement of environmental pollutants and their effects on human health. In particular aspects relating to the use of energy, the use of primary sources, to issues related to the consumption of energy in the world and the health impact of pollution both outdoor and indoor will be examined, taking into account both natural and anthropogenic contributions.

Teaching methods

The course will be held through lectures to Students either in the classroom (“in presenza”) or in synchronous-streaming (“in telepresenza”) on the Teams platform. Therefore, the opportunity of Student/Teacher interaction will be preserved both face to face and remotely, by the simultaneous use of the Teams platform.
Lectures will be supported by slide presentations, which will be available to students on the Elly platform (https://elly2020.medicina.unipr.it).

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral examination.
In case of the persistence of the health emergency, the exams will be conducted remotely, as follows:
remote oral questions, through the Teams platform (guide http://selma.unipr.it/).

Final grade will be the weighted average of the scores of the three modules.
