Course unit structured in the following modules:

Learning objectives

Acquisition of knowledge and understanding of the main neurological diseases, therapeutic strategies and tools, and specific aspects in the various conditions. The course has also the objective to provide the students with basic judging on patient condition, with tools for a correct communication on neurological issues, and with the basis for further studies.

Basic knopwledge of descriptive psychopathology
Being able to make a formal enquiry to the consultation-liaison psychiatric service
Being able to evaluate in an appropriate way the main symptoms involving mood and anxiety
Being able to give the main psychoeducation information to patients and family regarding major mental disorders
Being able to adapt their own behaviour when facing a specific psychiatric disorder

Prerequisites

Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of central and periferal nervous.systemBasic knowledge of pharmacology

Course unit content

Classification and analysis of the major neurologic diseases, with basic notions on epidemiology, etiopathogenesis, clinical manifestations and principles of therapy.
The chapter on cranial and facial pain will be explored in detail.

Neurology: written multiple choise test.
The knowledge and understanding of the subjects included in the program, reasoning capacity on the problems of neurological patients, the acquisition of a correct terminology.

Psychiatry: written multiple-choice test.

Students will also be able
to implement their grades during an additional oral test should they be unsatisfied with the grade they got from the written test.

Final score results from academic board consultation, based on the grading obtained in each course section.
