Learning objectives


Achieve a satisfactory knowledge of the main theoretical models of cognition. Develop the ability to analyze the literature critically, when appropriate also applying the learned principles to applied problems, and to communicate results both orally and in writing.

Prerequisites


It is recommended that students take Perception and Psychophysics prior to attending this course.

Course unit content


Main theoretical models of cognitive processes, with an an emphasis on the interaction between mind, body, and social environment.

Full programme


Survey of cognitive processes: history, methods, and problems. The approach of cognitive psychology. Embodied and grounded cognition. Social cognition. Attention, perception and motor system. Memory, representation,and knowledge.

Teaching methods


In-class lectures, compliant with safety standards. Supporting materials will be made available online and will include slide and audio-video materials.

Assessment methods and criteria


For students that attend the lectures: written exam (open questions) at the end of the course. For all others: oral exam on the texts in their entirety.
