2.1. To critically analyze and elaborate the concepts studied, linking themes, authors and trends.
2.2. To connect theories to cases of educational work, analyzed and understood with the specific conceptual tools of the discipline.
4. To communicate in writing their knowledge and thoughts on educational issues.

Prerequisites

None.

Course unit content

The course explores some fundamental themes of general and social pedagogy, introducing the student to know the terminology, key concepts, some reference theories, and the main areas of application.
In particular, the following topics will be addressed:
1) the main pedagogical models and trends developed over the last fifty years, identifying the salient characteristics and dealing with some reference authors;
2) the educational relation, according to the epistemic paradigm of the Educational sciences;
3) the educational needs expressed in social communities, especially those linked to the modern polycentric conformation of the educational system, to cultural change, social inequalities and new media.

Attention! The program is the same for students who attend and who do not attend the lessons.

Teaching methods

The course consists of a "learning environment", prepared by the teacher and composed of several elements:
1. lectures, exclusively held in synchronous online form through Microsoft Teams;
2. paper and digital texts (see Bibliography), to be prepared individually, also through the exercises that will be assigned;
3. exercises and activities to be carried out remotely in small groups that will be organized through Elly;
4. a cycle of introductory lectures, given by prof. M. Bonacini, on the relationship between psychology and education;
5. a seminar in preparation of the written exam, offered by Livia Fugalli and Elisa Zobbi.

Assessment methods and criteria

The final evaluation will take place through a written examination in two parts, the first consisting of a closed-ended test and the second of two or three open-ended questions. There is no mid-term evaluation.
The closed-answer test concerns the study of Social Pedagogy, i.e. the volume of M. Santerini in the program.
The second part, instead, contains questions on the concepts of the theory of education, the connection between terms, concepts, theories, authors and currents, as well as the connection between theories and typical situations of education work.
The two parts take place on the same day, but only those who have passed the first one, obtaining a sufficient score in the test, will be able to access the second one. In the latter, it is considered sufficient the examination in which one shows, with linguistic and terminological properties, to have understood the fundamental concepts. The appropriate reference to authors and currents, the connection or comparison between different theories, and the application of theory to practice (and the other around) are elements that make up a score higher than sufficiency. The correction criteria for the open-ended answers are the following: linguistic properties; knowledge; reflection, analysis, application; references; argumentation.
.
The overall score of the exam is calculated through the simple arithmetic average of the scores achieved in the test and in each open question, provided that all scores are at least equal to 18.
For example
- test: 12/30 = no access to the second part of the examination.
- test 24/30, answer A 15/30, answer B 28/30 = not passed.
- test 24/30, answer A 22/30, answer B 28/30 = passed with the score of 25/30.
.
If the examination is not passed even in a single part, it must still be repeated in full.
