Learning objectives

Learn the discretization techniques of continuous systems.
How to obtain numerical solutions for dynamic analysis and establish their accuracy.

Course unit content

Vibrations of continuous systems: local and global discretization methods (Rayleigh-Ritz, Galerkin, FEM); vibrations of beams and thin-walled structures.
Introduction to large amplitude vibrations and non-linear phenomena.
Stability problems in case of fluid-structure interaction: flutter and divergence of aeronautical and aerospace structures.
Applications to actual problems.
Laboratory experience on experimental modal analysis of structures with high modal density.
