Learning objectives
The course intends to provide the students with:
- awareness of the historical, linguistic and cultural context of the languages of the former Yugoslavia.
- the acquisition of an elementary training and linguistic competence of the Serbo-Croatian language written and spoken at A1 / A2 level.
During the course the student learns:
- to apply their knowledge in the field of daily communication.
- to use the fundamental morphosyntactic structures of the Serbo-Croatian language.
- to widen the study of the basic vocabulary.
- to broaden one's ability to understand the written text.
Course unit content
- Deal with the main features of the history of the language of Croats and Serbs and the problems relating to the formation of linguistic standards.
- Deepen historical-sociological and cultural aspects of the area of the former Yugoslavia.
- Acquire basic oral communication skills corresponding to the A1/A2 level.

Teaching methods
- Lectures and practical exercises in the classroom.
- The course also includes the use of the paper, multimedia and audio/video supports selected by the teacher.
- Workshops and practical exercises in order to encourage and motivate the student even by multimedia tools.
Assessment methods and criteria
The oral examination includes the reading, translation, summary and lexical-grammatical commentary of texts in order to verify the student's theoretical knowledge, as well as the conversation on readings and topics covered during the lessons. For the comprehension test the teacher use the material used during the course .
Evaluation criteria:
- The insufficient evaluation is determined by the lack of knowledge of the minimum contents of the course, corresponding to A1/A2 level
- A sufficient evaluation (18-23 / 30) is determined by the student's demonstration of having learned the fundamental contents of the course.
- The average scores (24-27/30) are awarded to the student who proves to have a level that is more than sufficient (24-25/30) or good (26-27/ 30) of the above evaluation indicators.
- The highest scores (from 28/30 to 30/30 and honors) are awarded on an excellent level of the above evaluation indicators.
