HEPATITIS VIRUSES, HIV, HERPES SYMPLEX VIRUS 1 AND 2 (HSV 1, 2) AND SYPHILIS: SEXUAL TRANSMISSION RISK AND EFFECTS ON PREGNANCY

Infection by hepatitis viruses (HBV, HCV): general concepts on molecular virology, main related diseases, fetal transmission risk, HBV maternal-fetal and neonatal transmission, prophylaxis
HIV: virology, natural history, diagnosis, main therapeutic strategies, conception in HIV discordant couples, guidelines for HIV screening in pregnant women. Maternal-fetal and neonatal transmission risk and prophylaxis
Syphilis: natural history, diagnosis, therapy, maternal-fetal transmission risk, clinical consequences of maternal-fetal and neonatal transmission
HSV 1, 2: natural history, diagnosis, maternal-fetal transmission risk and prophylaxis, clinical consequences of maternal-fetal and neonatal transmission

Assessment methods and criteria

The student’s knowledge, topics’ comprehension and her/his skill to apply them on the occupational contexts will be evaluated by questions on the topics related to the course content. The exam will be written with multiple choice and open questions. Failing to answer questions or proved insufficiency of the basic knowledge on the subject will preclude the successful completion of the exam.
