Learning objectives
-To acquire the fundamental concepts and tools of cultural anthropology (first descriptor of Dublin).
-to become accustomed to listening to others; to understand inequalities and hierarchies in social, kinship and gender relations; to understand social dynamics in relation to processes of globalization, migration, and intercultural processes; apply the concepts learned in the educational profession and in understanding educational processes (second Dublin descriptor).
-To broaden their horizons and vision of the world; to learn to deconstruct stereotypes and question the assumptions of common sense; to develop reflexivity; to develop critical thinking (third and fifth Dublin descriptors);
- To acquire the ability to communicate information, ideas, and anthropological and ethnographic issues to specialist and non-specialist interlocutors (fourth Dublin descriptor)

Course unit content
The course will focus on the concepts, practices and methods of cultural anthropology granting particular attention to the dimension of ethnographic research about which I will provide multiple examples. After historically contextualizing the birth of anthropology and changes in the ethnographic perspective, I will lead students in analyzing several fundamental concepts such as culture, cultural relativism, stereotype, identity, gender, generations, kinship, language, ethnocentrism, cultural translation, racism, ethnicity, highlighting the cultural complexities and specificities of anthropological discourse as a critical tool for reading various social processes. Particular attention will be granted to fundamental issues of contemporary societies such as the relationship between the global and the local, migration, gender, and interculturality in contexts of social interaction, including scholastic institutions, religious affiliations and new parental forms.

Teaching methods
Lessons will be carried out in two ways: in the classroom or blended. The sessions in the classroom will consist of face-to-face lectures during which the teacher will explain in detail the content of the exam texts and provide insights and examples with the aid of PowerPoint slides. Group discussions will also be proposed. The blended mode consists of several teaching units, each of which is composed of: a theoretical component, insights, bibliography, sitography, filmography and proposed activities.
Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination. The exam includes 10 multiple-choice questions (2 points each for a correct answer) and an open-ended question (the score for which ranges from 1 to 10 depending on the student’s acquired knowledge as demonstrated in the answer).
