Learning objectives

Discover the specificity of the teaching of physics. Use the curiosity to teach physics. Integration between spontaneous observation, guided observation, experimentation and theory. Physics as formalized observation of nature.
The objectives are in agreement with the contents reported in the "Allegato B" of the D.M. 616.

Prerequisites

Fundaments of kinematics and dynamics.

Course unit content

DIDACTICAL STRATEGIES IN TEACHING PHYSICS (PRE-FIT). 6 CFU.
The course is compliant to D.M. 616.

During the course, some theoretical lectures will be used as a main trace. The topics will be related to specificities of the teaching of physics. What is Physics. Laws-models-theories. From curiosity to laws, in agreement with IBSE (Inquiry Based Science Education) methodology. Observation of "inexplicable" phenomena. Various degrees of experimentation. Perception problems. Motion laws from Aristotele to Newton (and more). Measurement theory. Most of the course will be devoted to experiments: they will be designed together with students. The scope is to build model experiments for the teaching of physics. The main topics of the experiments will be mechanics and optics.

Bibliography

Notes of the teacher. Essential bibliography of each topic will be provided.

About the methodology IBSE: "L’Inquiry Based Science Education – IBSE nella formazione docenti e nella pratica didattica" di A. Pascucci (INDIRE). Link: http://forum.indire.it/repository_cms/working/export/attachments/6644/textual/6644_ver_1.pdf

Teaching methods

The main methodology can be referred to IBSE (Inquiry Based Science Education).
Laboratory experiments: from design, through execution to the verification. Between experiences, theoretical lectures will be present.

Assessment methods and criteria

Mostly oral examination (weight 70%) based on the discussion of a written report about a selected experiment. Evaluation of the laboratory work during the course (30%).
