Prerequisites:
Non è richiesto alcun tipo di prerequisito.

Teaching methods:
The course topics will be developed through:
• reception activities for the course carried out through a first classroom exercise on the ways of representing and reading the city and the territory;
• lectures on the course topics, carried out with the aid of slides made available to students;
• moments of confrontation on what is shown in the individual lessons;
• monographic exercise of analysis of the urban fabric of the historic center of Parma.

The exercise will be divided into two phases: the first related to the organization and acquisition of data also through surveys, photographs and inspections, the second concerning the analysis of the urban system carried out according to criteria identified by the teacher.
Addresses and methods for carrying out the exercise will be provided within the course.
During the lessons will be carried out verification and comparison activities necessary for the performance of the work.
The exercise can be carried out individually or in small groups.

Being a course of analysis will focus very much on developing students' ability to read urban environments, including through multidisciplinary solicitations and soliciting the acquisition of basic techniques of relief and representation (use of photography, approach to different cartographic sources, historical research documental and cartographic etc.) ..

The exercises will be carried out using the following software: Office and / or Open Office, Photoshop and / or Gimp for the processing of the cards that document the relevant work in the field; while Autocad or QuantumGis and / or ArcGis will be used for the elaboration of the thematic tables of final re-elaboration on urban areas.
For this purpose, within the course a specific training course is foreseen which will see a series of lessons in which the functions of the ArcGis software necessary to carry out the exercises will be illustrated.

Modality of verification of learning
Students will be assessed on the basis of the following educational tests:
• classroom exercises related to the contents of the lessons;
• monographic exercise of analysis of the urban fabric of the historic center of Parma;
• oral discussion on the work done: each student will have five minutes to describe a part of the work; the breakdown of the topics to be described by each student within the group is decided by the group itself;
• oral check on the topics covered in the course and in the basic texts.
N.B. The monographic analysis exercise of the urban fabric of the historic center of Parma will have to be delivered approximately one week before the date of the exam in which the students intend to take the exam; the exact date of delivery will be communicated on the course page with the necessary advance.
For each work group, the revisions with the teacher on the work done on the dates that will be established during the course are compulsory.
