Learning objectives

The objective of this course is to present and discuss all the following
subjects: Foundations of the European Union legal system, foundations of the Italian legal system, Principles of EU food Law, European Food Safety Authority, International and supranational organisations in the food sector
Food Safety Law, Food Quality Law.
At the end of the course, the student is expected to be able to outline orally the fundamental concepts characterising the Italian and EU legal systems, to refer and explain the main pillars of EU food law, and to master the use of the institutional portal eur-lex.europa.eu

Teaching methods

frontal lectures, case studies, and case simulations, combined where possible with seminars.
Whenever possible preference shall be given to active learning methods. Presentations, slides and additional targeted publications will be shared on a weekly basis via the Elly portal, whose access requires pre-registration by students. Students are recommended to register and regularly consult the Ellly portal

Assessment methods and criteria

The evaluation (30/30) will be based on
1. oral exam (weight: 25/30) with several questions and it will be aimed at assessing the level of knowledge of the contents discussed during the course, of the legal jargon, the ability to use the sources of law and the following aspects:
- Knowledge and ability to comprehend
- Knowledge application
- Ability to analyze complex dataset and cases and draw conclusions
- Communication skills
- Ability to gain knowledge
2. a practical test (weight: 05/30) of the student's ability to use eur-lex.europa.eu.
The outcome of the exam is communicated immediately after the end of the exam.
