Learning objectives

Knowledge and understanding
Knowledge of how lab problems get solved in practice; enrichment of her/his technical background. Understanding of the technical needs of practical engineering activities.

Applying knowledge and understanding.
The student applies the technical knowledge in an operational context and on real cases. She/he is invited, whenever the conditions are met, to propose modifications to the design solutions.

Making judgements.
The student is encouraged to identify the best strategy to solve hig assigned practical problem.

Communication skills.
The student has to communicate and act with his academic tutor.

Learning skills.
The student improves the self-learning ability, getting in touch with new problems and learning how to manage the new challenges.

Prerequisites

Since the stage is supposed to provide the chance to apply engineering expertise in a working environment, the student should apply for it only when he has acquired a good deal of such expertise. Therefore, the stage is scheduled in the last year.

Course unit content

The lab internship consists of a study period on a topic assigned by a department faculty to the student in order to deepen the ability of the student to apply her/his knowledge acquired during his courses. The student must selec a lab tutor among the department faculties.
The conpulsory period amounts to 6 ECTS credits.
For each ECTS credit, 25 hours of work are foreseen.

Teaching methods

Learning by practice under the supervision of the university tutor

Assessment methods and criteria

At the end of the internship the student produces a written report on the activity, and the university tutor approves/does not approve the report.
