The course aims at providing knowledge of the general principles of epidemiology and prevention of infectious diseases. Making judgements ability and specific communication skills ablity.

Course unit content

General aspects of the epidemiology of infectious diseases:host-parasite relationships sources and reservoirs of infection; modes of occurrence and spread of infectious diseases.
General aspects of direct prevention and indirect prevention
Protection of the healthy subject: vaccine prophylaxis; serum prophylaxis; chemoprophylaxis.

Full programme

Epidemiology of infectious diseases: host-parasite relationship, sources and reservoirs of infection, chains of infection, mode of occurrence of infectious diseases in the population.
The levels of preventive intervention: primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention.
Prophylaxis of infectious diseases: notification, diagnostic investigation, isolation, cleaning, disinfection, antisepsis, sterilization, vaccine prophylaxis, immunoglobuline prophylaxis, chemoprophylaxis.
