Integrated course unit module: PATHOLOGY AND CLINIC OF COMMUNICATION

Learning objectives

The course aims to enable students to know and understand basic information on the treatment of the oropharynx diseases and on the basic clinical elements in larynx disorders, also in order to allow students to use these knowledge and understanding in identifying the patient's problems related to the condition of a person suffering from a disease and to prepare an appropriate care plan

The students at the end of the course will demonstrate knowledge and understanding about:

Swelling of the neck

Acute and chronic laryngitis

Benign tumours of the larynx

Malignant tumours of the larynx

Radical surgery of the oral cavity

Functional and radical surgery of the larynx.

Pathology of the middle ear and of the internal ear

Elements of ENT anatomy and physiology.

The ENT examination and instrumental diagnostics

Surgery of the nose and of the paranasal sinuses

Surgery of the oral cavity and of the oropharynx

Surgery of the neck

Surgery of the larynx and of the hypopharynx

Tracheotomy and tracheostomy tubes

Phoniatric and deglutition rehabilitation

The lessons cover topics such as swelling of the neck, acute and chronic laryngitis, benign tumours of the larynx, malignant tumours of the larynx, radical surgery of the oral cavity, functional and radical surgery of the larynx, pathology of the middle ear and of the internal ear, elements of ENT anatomy and physiology, the ENT examination and instrumental diagnostics, surgery of the nose and of the paranasal sinuses, surgery of the oral cavity and of the oropharynx, surgery of the neck, surgery of the larynx and of the hypo pharynx, tracheotomy and tracheostomy tubes, phoniatric and deglutition rehabilitation

Teaching methods

Class lessons: the program themes will be discussed with the aid of slides. The proposed topics will be the subject of collective discussion and study on the basis of ideas and any questions raised during the lessons themselves.

Assessment methods and criteria

The achievement of the goals of the course is verified by an oral exam.
Answering questions about the contents of the course, the student will demonstrate whether he/she has achieved the goals of knowledge and understanding of the contents and the ability to apply the acquired knowledge.
