Learning objectives

The course is aimed to provide the student :
D1 - Knowledge and understanding
The student must demonstrate knowledge of the basic elements of etiology, pathogenesis and diagnostics of infectious diseases of animals and humans and must demonstrate to be able to correctly interpret the data obtained from diagnostic tests of infectious diseases of animals and humans.
D2 - Applying knowledge and understanding
At the end of the training activity, the student will have to demonstrate that he is able to discuss the etiological, pathogenetic and diagnostic procedures to be applied to infectious diseases of animals and humans.
D3 - Making judgements
The student will be able to individually identify the most appropriate protocols and methods for correctly diagnosing infectious diseases of animals and humans.
D4 – Communication
At the end of the training activity, the student will have to demonstrate that he is able to express himself with good lexicon properties in relation to diagnostic procedures and diagnostic methods for infectious diseases of animals and humans.
D5 - Lifelong learning skills
At the end of the training activity, the student will be able to update himself on etiology, pathogenesis and diagnostic procedures of infectious diseases of animals and humans.

Criteria for a correct sampling
Direct diagnosis of bacterial, viral and fungal diseases: identification, isolation and characterization of microorganism.
Antibiotic resistance and characterization of Antibiotic-Resistant bacteria (Multi-drug resistant, Extensively –drug resistant, Pan-drug resistant).
Indirect diagnosis of bacterial, viral and fungal diseases through different methods (ELISA, SN, IFI)
Set up, interpretation and validation (sensitivity, specificity) of serological test used to support population screening;
