Integrated course unit module: GENERAL AND ORGANIC CHEMISTRY

Learning objectives

The course aims to provide the students with basic knowledge to understand the relationships between molecular structure, properties and reactivity of organic molecules, as fundamentals for the study of biochemical and biological processes underlying the animal production sciences. At the end of the course the students are expected to be able to master the acquired theoretical concepts and to apply knowledge in analyzing and solving simple problems of organic chemistry.

Prerequisites

It is required having attended the Inorganic and General Chemistry module, that, along with the present Organic Chemistry module, constitutes the exam of General and Organic Chemistry. The students will have the possibility to take the test on Organic Chemistry only if they have passed the test on Inorganic and General Chemistry.

Teaching methods

The course is carried out through frontal oral lessons. Exercises dealing with the transformation of simple organic molecules will be proposed allowing the students to check applying knowledge, understanding and learning skills, in line with the above mentioned objectives.

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam on Organic Chemistry consists of a written test dealing with open questions covering all the contents of the program. Every question will provide the same number of points independently by the difficulty. The result of the test is marked in thirtieth, a minimun of eighteen thirtieth is required as passing level.
