Learning objectives

The first series of lectures is concerned aims at illustrating some research fields in Mathematical Analysis.

The second series of lectures aims at
illustrating some differential models in biomathematics

Prerequisites

None

Course unit content

Two different series of lectures will be provided. Students are required to attend one of the two series.

The first series of lectures will be focused on research topics in Mathematical analysis.

The second series of lectures, delivered by Prof. M. Groppi, will be devoted to illustrating some differential models in biomathematics

Full programme

The first series of lectures will be focused on illustrating research topics in Mathematical Analysis paying particular attention to the Calculus of variations.

The second series of lectures will illustrate and study some mathematical models in biomathematics. Attention will be paid both to the construction of the models, and to the analysis of the resulting mathematical problems, in the area of (ordinary and partial) differential equations, but introducing also integro-differential equations. The list of topics will involve:
- Mathematical models in electrocardiology and neural network models
- Optimal control problems in epidemiological systems
- Bifurcations in predator prey systems
- Kinetic models for tumor-immune system dynamics
- Mathematical models in landscape ecology
- Turing instability and pattern formation in reaction diffusion system
