Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to support directly the design work carried out in the Laboratory. Contributions to classroom lectures and discussions on the work undertaken by the students aim to supply students with cognitive tools that can be used directly in the design experience.

Laboratory work is divided into two major phases that will be followed contemporaneously over the academic year. The first, theoretically-oriented phase, is connected to a series of lessons-information regarding architectural debate both past and present; it will also provide analytic examination of cases studies from which practical ideas can be drawn regarding the overall composition of the project, its urban context, the landscape, infrastructure, distributive and functional aspects, technologies, materials and construction elements. During the second phase, students divided into small groups will produce a project agreed upon with laboratory instructors.

Teaching methods
The course consists of classroom lectures, seminars, discussion and revision of analysis and design drawings. Lectures are accompanied by design project discussion and revision activities, which will enable the selecting of significant design-related references vis à vis specific compositional or figurative problems with a view to developing the project, when problematic issues arise during the project itself. The examination consists of the discussion of the lecture topics, of the testing of the critical analysis of the project with reference to the infrastructural system as well as of the testing of the consistency between settlement strategy, the organization of the project and the choices taken in the expression of the same.
