Learning objectives

Knowledge and understanding:
After completing the course, the student will have in-depth some of the topics covered in the teachings of "Industrial logistics" and "supply chain management". It is therefore expected that the student has acquired expertise in the field of logistics and supply chain management, mainly based on a rigorous scientific approach and its ability to address and solve real problems through the use of computer and MS Excel®.

Skills:
The knowledge gained by the student may be used in order to design the processes of supply chain and logistics system. In addition, the student will be able to quantitatively evaluate specific aspects of the supply chain and logistics processes.

Making judgments:
The student will be able to quantitatively evaluate specific aspects of the supply chain and logistics processes, such as, for example, the environmental impact or the chance of reverse logistics strategies.

Communication skills:
The student will acquire the specific vocabulary relating to the topics of the course. It is expected that the student is able to explain, both orally and in writing, the major concepts covered in class.

Learning skills:
Students who have attended the course will acquire a complete overview on logistics and supply chain management, and will therefore be able to deepen their knowledge in these areas, through the consultation of independent specialized texts and journals or dissemination, even outside of the topics covered tightly to class.

Prerequisites

The course can be attended with profit only after having attended the classes of Industrial Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

Course unit content

The course explores some of the issues already discussed in the teachings of "Industrial Logistics" and "Supply chain management" and proposed for discussion of topics complement these courses, mainly based on a rigorous scientific approach and related to real data and practical exercises conducted through tool MS Excel®. Learners is also proposed the analysis of case studies related to the topics covered.

Teaching methods

The course topics are addressed mainly through lectures. During the course, students will discuss case studies related to some specific topics. Laboratory activities are also proposed.

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam will be in written form, consisting in exercises with Microsoft Excel (mandatory), plus an oral exam (optional). Passing the test performed with Microsoft Excel is a prerequisite to gain the access to the (possible) oral exam. During the oral exam, the student must demonstrate perfect knowledge of the topics covered and its connection with the proposed case studies and exercises. In addition, whenever the student refuses the mark obtained at the end of the oral examination, the corresponding grade obatined in the first part pf the exam (exercise with Microsoft Excel) will be deemed rejected and the student must therefore repeat the test.
