Learning objectives

The Integrated Course of Speech II includes the following learning objectives:
- Allow the student to know and understand, at a basic level, the mechanisms of cell proliferation and cell death and their alterations in tumor biology, the pathogenesis of some diseases on the basis of genetic and metabolic phenomena and damage response.
- Allow the student to know and to understand the essential elements of clinical and instrumental diagnosis of diseases within audio-vestibolari.Lo student must acquire the ability to use knowledge and understanding in order to interpret the different clinical pictures, with particular attention to the differential diagnosis of hearing loss and peripheral vertigo.
-Allow The student to know and understand the essential elements to define the clinical picture of learning disorders in children and DSL, in order to enable him to apply the knowledge and understanding acquired to define the clinical picture of DSL , to plan an appropriate budget speech therapy leading to define the rehabilitation treatment. To achieve this objective, the course should lead the student to acquire independence of judgment and communication skills in order to be able to communicate clearly and unambiguously the knowledge and rationale underpinning these to the various stakeholders that make up the clinical team involved in the diagnosis and rehabilitation of DSL and learning disorders. The course therefore has to develop in the student the ability to learn that will lead him to act with professional autonomy through all the acts defined by the professional code of ethics of the speech-language pathologist: budget, counseling, education, rehabilitation, monitoring, treatment planning, prevention, program review intervention, symptomatology, tester, evaluation / assessment of the effectiveness of therapy.

Course unit content

The integrated course includes the following modules:
General pathology; Audiology; Speech therapy in the DSL and learning disorders; performing arts. The lessons are therefore aimed to investigate aspects of general pathology, symptomatology of clinical and instrumental of the auditory and vestibular apparatus. Then come some depth otological diseases such as otosclerosis and acute and chronic inflammation of the middle ear (otitis media, chronic otitis media, cholesteatoma).
So lessons are conducted on a comparative analysis between specific disorders of language (DSL) in childhood and language disorders secondary to other diseases attributable to speech therapy; Finally, we analyze the learning disorders and possible treatments speech therapy rehabilitation.

Teaching methods

During the lectures will be presented and discussed the topics listed in the program trying to involve the student so that he can be an active part of lezione.L oral lessons and provide presentation in video-projection of the contents with the help of filmed documentation of particular aspects semeiological clinical and instrumental. The last minutes of class are reserved for questions of clarification from the students. It provides for the discussion of clinical cases emblematic. Lectures also require the presentation in video projection of the main theoretical content and methodologies rehabilitative speech therapist treated during the same time watching and analyzing movies of clinical cases can provide knowledge and apply them in practical exercises.

Assessment methods and criteria

The assessment of learning and knowledge takes place during the appeals provided for by the teaching calendar, by oral, in the presence of the Committee of Professors of Integrated Course. The student must be able to demonstrate the knowledge to confuse this major causes of disease and the main clinical and instrumental diagnosis of audiological and otological diseases. The assessment of learning and knowledge acquired in the field of speech therapy provides a written and oral examination on the content of the course will occur if the student has achieved the objectives of knowledge, understanding of content and the ability to apply such knowledge to the prevention, detection, preparation and monitoring of the rehabilitation project of DSL and learning disorders.
