Learning objectives

The student is expected to acquire the essential elements of epidemiological methodology; the necessary knowledge for preventing infectious and non infectious diseases; knowledge of environmental hygiene, hospital hygiene, health education.

Concept of health-Elements of epidemiological methodology –Epidemiological measures,Types of epidemiological studies i.- Risk factor concept and concept of cause in disease-General epidemiology of infectious diseases-Sources of infection, modes of transmission-Factors promoting the emergence of infections.-Modes of emergence of infections in the population-Preventive medicine-Aims and methods of prevention. Levels of preventive intervention-Prevention of infections-Discovery and inactivation of sources of infection, breaking of the infection transmission chain; increased resistance to infections-General principles of prevention of non infectious diseases: primary prevention, secondary prevention, tertiary prevention-Prevention of blood borne infections (HBV;HCV;HDV;HIV)-Hospital infections-Environmental hygiene: drinkable water – overview of supply sources; risks of pollution -Potability criteria; purification methods-Overview of Health Education
