Learning objectives

1. To translate and understand the Latin text
2. To consider the main issues of the X Century
3. To evaluate subjectivity and objectivity of the historical sources
4. To convey the historical contents using an adequate specialized vocabulary
5. To use the sources to reconstruct a historical period

Prerequisites

Knowledge of history and sources of the Early Middle Ages.

Course unit content

The "Relatio de legatione constantinopolitana" of Liutprando da Cremona. Reading and commentary of the source.
Description of the Byzantine Court.
Political and cultural comparison between the Byzantine Empire and the West.
