Learning objectives

The course aims to enable the student to know and to understand the essential elements of etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of major pathological conditions of veterinary interest, also in order to allow the student the ability to use the knowledge and understanding gained in identifying the patient's problems related to the condition of animals suffering from the disease of interest obstetrics-gynecology and to prepare an appropriate care plan showing communication skills and learnig skills. In addition, the course aims to provide students with the basis of the manual to be carried out to perform in vitro fertilization and a collection of semen with an artificial vagina in the equine species, introduce students to the knowledge of the basis for the reproductive management of herds in several species from income and be able to assist a veterinarian in carrying out and implementing best practices diagnostic, therapeutic, preventive measures and making judgements.

Teaching methods

The course will take place through lectures, tutorials, seminars, visits to partner companies and local public slaughterhouse.
During the lectures will be to support specific and updated Power Point presentation of the topics covered, will be screened instructional videos into DVDs that will be discussed with the students.
Practical exercises will be carried out with small groups of students (max 5-6 students at a time) on reproductive organs from local slaughterhouses and in vivo animal directly on farms or in the facilities of the Department.

Assessment methods and criteria

Will be played a final written exam multiple choice in which the student will demonstrate knowledge and the understanding of the essential elements of etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of major pathological conditions of interest obstetrics and gynecology, will also be called to manifest the knowledge and understanding gained in identifying the problems of managing a herd of livestock and knowing how to prepare a plan of care and prevention of disease in synergy with the appropriate veterinary surgeon.

The vote will be expressed out of thirty, will be submitted 30 multiple choice questions randomly assigned to each student will be assigned a value of one point for each correct answer, a negative point for each wrong answer or no answer for each. Will be deemed sufficient examination with at least an overall score of 18/30.
