Learning objectives
This course aims to provide students with a set of advanced tools for the economic and statistical analysis of the territory. During the course the students will study the issues concerning the construction of a veritable territorial information system able to gather, compare and relate the main statistical data available (or collected specifically) at local level. Furthermore, the course will also introduce the basic functions of specific software for “geo-visualisation”, to link economic data to geographical information (production of maps and theme charts).
Course unit content
<br />Introduction: The questions to ask and the answers to be found in territorial data – General review of the sources and essential statistical concepts - Advanced EXCEL tools. Metadata and important classifications for territorial analysis. <br />From the analysis of data concerning single phenomena/dimensions to the “territorial information system” - Tools: Use of ACCESS to analyse territorial data (part 1). Examples/applications of territorial analysis or specific studies already available in Italy (I). <br />From the analysis of data concerning single phenomena/dimensions to the “territorial information system” - Tools: Use of ACCESS to analyse territorial data (part 2). Examples/applications of territorial analysis or specific studies already available in Italy (II)<br />Visualisation and exploration of data concerning territorial areas using a GIS software (part 1). Examples and applications: From territorial analysis and applications to the policy planning lines for local development in Europe and the rest of the world.<br />Visualisation and exploration of data concerning territorial areas using a GIS software (part 2).
