Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with the first tools to start reading a territorial reality and understand his needs. In particular, we want to develop independent judgment and ability to analyze territorial problems at different scales, from local to European.

Course unit content
The course introduce the student to the fundamental concepts of economic geography in a European perspective. The first part of the course will cover general topics intended to frame the discipline and its methodologies. It will delve into issues such as the economic region, the concept of distance, transcalarity, the paradigm center - periphery, the territorial organization etc..
The second part of the course, however, is concern on the analysis of the geopolitical situation in the European Union. After a brief introduction to the history of the EU, we will explore some issues related to European policies and strategies by highlighting, for each topic, the impact on the educational dimension. In particular we will focus on the architecture of governance and the Lisbon Strategy, today Europe 2020. The study of the issues will be carried out using the methods and concepts learned in the first part of the course.

Teaching methods
The course will develop into a series of lectures which will be discussed in the various topics proposed. Each lesson will propose theoretical moments accompanied by concrete examples. From the middle of the course students will be asked to read some daily online magazine for working on European issues of greatest relevance.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment will be done through a written examination. The questions will be three with varying degrees of difficulty that will allow to evaluate the accuracy of the study, the ability to link between general concepts and specific topics and, finally, the level of independence of judgment.
The task will be passed if the student will respond adequately to all three questions
