Learning objectives

The main purpose of the course is learning the GRASS GIS, an Open Source Free System especially appropriate for an educational use. <br />
The course is developed nearly exclusively through computer exercises. After learning the main system commands for displaying and analyzing thematic maps, the digitizing of cartographic data and the displaying and animation of 3D data are considered. <br />
At the end of the course, some examples of practical applications in order to evaluate in quantitative terms the environmental characteristics, are developed. <br />

Main characteristics of a GIS (Geographic Information System). <br />
Specific characteristics of the GRASS (Geographical Resources Analysis Support System) GIS. <br />
The main GRASS commands for displaying and analysis of maps. <br />
Digitizing through the v.digit module. <br />
3D displaying and animation through the nviz module. <br />
Example of analysis and evaluation of environmental characteristics. <br />
