Course unit content

<p>Outline of classical statistical mechanics.<br />
Mixed states in quantum statistical mechanics. Density operator, statistical entropy.</p>
<p>Fundamental principle of statistical mechanics, quantum statistical ensembles. Ideal quantum gases, paramagnets, molecular rotations and vibrations, heat capacity of solids.</p>
<p>Phase transitions. Linear response.</p>
