Learning objectives
The course aims to give the student the fundamental notions of juvenile criminal justice through the analysis of the law and the study of leading cases. Moreover, the course aims to give the students those methodological tools which are necessary, for a future job as social worker, in order to understand and deal with legal issues concerning juvenile criminal justice.

Course unit content
The course covers the outlines of juvenile criminal justice, with reference both to issues of substantive criminal law and issues of criminal procedure. Moreover, the programme will give particular attention to the juvenile offender, to the prevention of juvenile delinquency, to the juvenile punishment system and to rules of criminal procedure. Within these topics, the role of the social services will be analysed. Part of the programme will be dedicated to sexual crimes against children.
