Course unit content

Title of the course: The history and theory of theatre direction in the twentieth century

The theatre of the twentieth century is considered the century of direction par excellence. The course introduces the meanings and the theories developed around the directorial expectations; it proposes an excursus by example through the European developments of the directorial phenomenon, analyzing a few productions (with video and live viewings) and discussing the poetics and the operating procedures of direction. Through exercises and seminar work moments, it teaches how to read and analyse the scene contract.
