To acquire outlines of medieval and Renaissance music, of Humanism and the Renaissance in Western culture. <br />

Course unit content

Sequences, tropes and liturgical drama. Development of musical dramaturgy in the spiritual theater between Humanism and Renaissance. The rediscovery of “canto alla lira” as a Humanistic product and the Fable of Orpheus by Politian. Development of the concept of accompanied monody and birth of musical dramaturgy in the Florentine experiment of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.<br />
