Learning objectives

Advanced study of Latin and acquisition of the methodological skills required for independent research.

Prerequisites

Course requirement: 10 credits in the Latin language and literature SDA. Students who have already gained 15 credits in the same SDA must pass a preliminary written entry exam.

Course unit content

Course title: The language of persuasion in Seneca. <br />
<br />
Through the reading, with commentary, of passages taken in particular from the author’s epistolary writings, the course aims to bring out the importance that Seneca attaches to language as a means of persuasion. Examples of various methods of persuasion will be provided and examined, above all the role of the philosophical admonitio in Seneca’s stylistic theory and practice. <br />
Close examination of topics in historical Latin morphology. <br />
<br />
Students will carry out a piece of scientific research to be agreed upon with the professor. <br />
