Learning objectives
The course offers a technical introduction to textual criticism, enabling the students to analyse and interpret the critical apparatus of an edition and focusing the linguistic and stylistic features of the texts, both in prose and in poetry
Prerequisites
Have earned 10 credits in the subject area of Latin Language and Literature; those who have already earned 15 credits in this subject area must pass a preliminary written exam. <br />
Course unit content
<p><em>Modes of metatheatre in Plutus's and Terence's comedies</em></p>
<p>Various forms of metatheatre - or play within the play - emerge throughout the whole history of Roman comedy: among them the interaction between characters and audience, the emphasis on the play as performance, the identification between playwright and character. The course highlights the difference in Plautus's and Terence' approach. </p>
