Integrated course unit module: PHILOLOGICAL DISCIPLINES (INTEGRATED)

Learning objectives

The objective of the course is a serious knowledge, conducted through the examination of texts in the original language, of at least one literary genre of medieval Occitanian literature, which composes one essential ingredient of European cultural identity.

Prerequisites

As this is an exam of the Magistrale type, it is advisable for the students to have taken a course in novel philology during the three year period. At the start of the lessons, a basic bibliography will be supplied to cover eventual gaps.

Course unit content

The course is Magistrale and of a seminar nature; it includes various activities of reading and translating Occitanian texts, reading facsimiles of manuscripts, and various written exercises during the year. The title and the specific contents, obviously variable from year to year, can be consulted on the Italianistic Department site.

Bibliography

The bibliography varies from year to year, and can be consulted on the Italianistic Department site.

Teaching methods

The exam consists of various written tests throughout the course, from the elaboration of a final thesis which will be the subject of a discussion, and of an oral interview (translation and commentary of a ‘new’ Occitanian text, that is, neither a course subject nor the thesis). <br />
