To acquire outlines of medieval and Renaissance music, of Humanism and the Renaissance in Western culture.

Course unit content

Discussion of the origins and development of Western musical culture. <br />
<br />
Western music as a characterizing element emanated from Roman liturgy to European culture. <br />
Transition to the polyphonic concept understood as a product of art. Elaboration of the compositional procedure in counterpoint. <br />
Development of speculative thought in medieval and Renaissance theory. <br />
